Pink and Pearl Babyshower

I was ecstatic when given the opportunity to make custom decorations for a baby shower.  A few projects have been in mind but never a reason to make them.  I despise being wasteful with my time and money, so I refused to make something "just because".

Artistic freedom and a dress for inspiration, were given to me, what a crafter's dream!  The colors of the dress inspired me to make decorations in the yellow, peach, light purple, white and pink…ultimately, the theme turned into pink and pearls, kind of  Shabby Sheek, a look both the home owner and I liked.

Unfortunately, with a new roof installation starting tomorrow, my budget was extremely limited.  Cute and inexpensive?  Challenge accepted!

First order of business was to make table centerpieces for 3 tables.  I decided to go with recycled painted jars, a beautiful diaper cake and a small pink/pearl flower arrangement.

Painted Jars

Items used:

  • Recycled jars
  • Oops paint

Painted canning jars are all the rage in Shabby Sheek decor…but again why buy jars when recycled jars are just as impactful?  I reached into my OOPS paint collection and found a light pink and a light yellowish peach.  Perfect!  Again, at 50 cents per color an OOPS paint collection is an absolute MUST for a crafter.  Check out your hardware store on a regular basis for OOPS paint. For this project you simply POUR and SWIRL.  That's it!

Let Dry

I used 100% latex paint for this project.  You CAN dilute the paint with water, but you may need several applications for full coverage. The paint will take several days to dry if you are letting it air dry.

Pink and Pearl Flower Arrangement

This was my favorite table decor of the whole bunch, but -beware- it is very time consuming.

Items Used:
  • Small styrofoam ball
  • Card stock
  • Paper punch in 2 flower sizes
  • Pearl tipped short pins

First, have a paper punching party.  My 3 and 6 year old had a blast punching away, and my 9 year old was quality control.  Unfortunately, I had to fire my young ones to get "complete" flowers.  It was bedtime anyway!

Next, grab your weapon of choice…I used pearl tipped SHORT pins because I was using a small styrofoam ball.  The longer ones would be more appropriate for larger projects but keep in mind that they are also more expensive.

Grab a large and small paper cutout and stick it on the styrofoam ball.  I bent the flowers to give them a pretty shape.  Start with a line, then work your way around.

Diaper Cake

Unfortunately, I did not get pictures of the diaper cake making process.  A fellow MOPS leader and I made it on an overcast day.  I promise to take pictures step by step next time!

The diaper cake and materials were donated by the .  This is a new organization offered to Midland area Mothers of Preschoolers.  It has been such a blessing to my daughter and I since we have moved to the area.  We meet every 2nd and 4th Tuesday from 0900-1100.  Please visit the for more information…and I will be doing a special post on this  group of beautiful and supportive women soon.

Pink and Pearl Banner

Next order of business was to make a banner.  To continue the theme, the same card stock from the pink and pearl flowers were used, as well as the same pearls from the diaper cake.  Simply cut the paper , glue the pearls (draw the letters first) then add ribbon to hang.  Very simple, yet so much better than store bought. I'll take handmade with love ANY DAY!

Finally, what are those mismatched things on sticks?

Paper Button Flowers

This was my oldest daughter's favorite decoration because she got to help a lot during the process.

Items used:
  • Card Stock in various colors
  • Buttons
  • Flower Petal Punch
  • Hot glue gun
  • Sticks

Gather the card stock paper and have another paper punching party.

Have fun gluing the smaller petal on to the larger petal in different combinations.  I think we had every combination possible!  Next, grab a button and glue the petals on!

Once it was dry enough, I grabbed some sticks from my back yard to use as the stems for the flowers.  Very natural/rustic look don't you think?

That's it!  Simple and on a budget while hopefully not looking like on a budget.
A HUGE thank you to Stephanie for allowing me to be a part of this.  I think EVERY child is a blessing and should be celebrated.

Thank you Kristen =) That was my daughter's fave project because she helped me with it. Each kid wanted to take one to their teacher at school. I couldn't resist so I let them.
